Hotel Gruber

Sesto
A minimalist dining hall at Hotel Gruber that balances intimacy and openness through wooden partitions, sculpted light, and framed views of the surrounding mountain landscape.

The new dining hall at Hotel Gruber introduces a minimalist yet highly atmospheric design concept that merges clarity, warmth, and spatial rhythm. The architectural intervention focuses on subtle contrasts—between openness and intimacy, light and shadow, transparency and enclosure—achieved through carefully placed wooden partitions and curated lighting.

These partitions serve as gentle dividers within the space, giving each dining table a sense of privacy while maintaining visual connection across the room. The result is a flowing, light-filled hall that avoids any sense of fragmentation or isolation.

Framed internal windows offer curated views of the surrounding mountain peaks, transforming the dining space into a quiet observatory of the landscape. These openings also guide daylight deep into the room, animating the interior throughout the day with ever-changing shadows and highlights.

The ceiling lighting adds a poetic, site-specific touch: suspended elements echo the jagged silhouettes of the alpine skyline, bringing the outside in through abstraction. By night, this lighting casts gentle contours that mirror natural mountain rhythms, reinforcing the relationship between architecture and context.

Materiality remains grounded—wood, in particular, takes center stage. Its tactile warmth and texture contrast elegantly with the restraint of the overall design, creating a space that feels both elevated and grounded.

Hotel Gruber’s dining hall is not simply a place to eat, but a calm, crafted environment where architecture quietly enhances the act of gathering, reflecting both the surrounding landscape and the intimacy of shared moments.
